SW 925 CRITICAL ISSUES IN RACIAL AND ETHNIC EXPERIENCE

3.0 graduate credits

Social workers have an historic commitment and ethical imperative for practice that empowers disadvantaged individuals and groups. This course examines devaluing attitudes toward others, the ethnocen trism, prejudice, bias, discrimination, and racism that permeate our society, then explores ways these attitudes have shaped the experi ences of selected ethnic and minority groups. Students are prepared for more sensitive and effective practice. The theme of the course is "achievement against the odds."
