Independent study may be undertaken by a student in order to explore a specific area of interest. The plan of study and bibliography are developed by the student, in cooperation with a faculty mentor, according to guidelines established by the School. Normally, independent study is available to students who have completed the courses in the foundation curriculum with a 3.50 average. Independent study plans must be approved by the student's educational coordinator and the dean. No course regularly offered by the school may be taken as a subject for independent study, though such study may take an existing course as a point of departure for pursuing a topic in greater depth.
