D/HD 1031 SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC DIMENSIONS OF HUMAN DEVELOPMENT

This is the second of four courses which constitute the core interdisciplinary curriculum of the doctoral program at Marywood University. The course introduces students to the systems model of human growth and development. In this model, it is posited that an understanding of individuals can only be derived from an understanding of the interactions/transactions occurring between the individual and his/her socioeconomic environment at various stages in the life-cycle. Students will gain a better understanding of: the social nature of humankind; symbolic interaction and social systems theory; major economic theories; life-cycle theory; social control and organizational theory; and, of the primary social institutions influencing human development.
